This research arises from the need of children from 4 to 5 years of age at the Purísima Concepción de María Foundation, located in Bogotá, to enhance gross motor skills using carranguera music as a pedagogical strategy.
In the first instance, a direct observation of the students from 4 to 5 years is carried out to know at what level they are at the gross motor level. Subsequently, a series of playful workshops are implemented where each student is given a leading role, they live the experience in a meaningful way, they become aware of their body through movements so that expressiveness, affectivity, and creativity emerge and at the same time they approach carranguera music to learn about the idiosyncrasy of the peasants and feel rooted in Colombian music.
This work is framed in a type of qualitative research since, through a detailed analysis, it understands the people under study and their reality. The design corresponds to an action research and uses three semi-structured interviews: one addressed to the legal representative of the Foundation, another addressed to the Transition teacher to obtain information regarding the methodology and pedagogical practices that she implements within the classroom to have a clear image of how she approaches her work and how it impacts the students of that degree; and another addressed to a caregiver to obtain relevant information regarding the knowledge of gross motor skills and its importance for the development of their children. Likewise, a survey was applied to 12 attendants to find out what importance they give to art, specifically to the dance of carranguera music and recreational play as axes to enhance gross motor skills in their children. Subsequently, the information collected through triangulation is analyzed. This process is supported by ICT through the creation of an interactive blog.
This is how the problematic question arises: in what way does art, through the practice of carranguera music, affect the gross motor skills of girls and boys from 4 to 5 years old of the Purísima Concepción de María Foundation located in Bogotá.
