The objective of the research was to understand the experiences of low performance in the area of mathematics, of boys and girls from 9 to 11 years old with intellectual disabilities from a district educational institution in Bogotá. The study method was qualitative and type of phenomenological research. The participants were 10 primary school students from a district educational institution in the city of Bogotá. The instrument used was the semi-structured interview. As a result, the most outstanding experiences that we can mention are: The non-direct relationship between liking for the area of mathematics and academic performance, traditional teaching methods, lack of support from parents, low motivation, disjointed learning goals, difficulties in social relations, among others. Finally, 4 large chapters were generated that indicated the description of the project, the referential framework, the conceptual framework, methodological process and finally the analysis of results.
