The objective of the research was to understand the experiences of low performance in the area of ​​mathematics, of boys and girls from 9 to 11 years old with intellectual disabilities from a district educational institution in Bogotá. The study method was qualitative and type of phenomenological research. The participants were 10 primary school students from a district educational institution in the city of Bogotá. The instrument used was the semi-structured interview. As a result, the most outstanding experiences that we can mention are: The non-direct relationship between liking for the area of ​​mathematics and academic performance, traditional teaching methods, lack of support from parents, low motivation, disjointed learning goals, difficulties in social relations, among others. Finally, 4 large chapters were generated that indicated the description of the project, the referential framework, the conceptual framework, methodological process and finally the analysis of results.
